Welcome to Pound Ridge

Historically speaking, land was purchased from Native Americans, specifically the Siwanoy and Kitchawong Indians. Mohican tribes that are a subgroup of the Algonquains. The name “Pound Ridge” refers to the enclosed Native American hunting game “pounds” in the areas many ridges. Settled in 1640, Pound Ridge wasn’t incorporated until 1788. As the US gained its independence, the area flourished. Saw mills, grist mills, blacksmith shops, and general stores were built. While an agrarian and dairy farming culture makes most sense for this locale, Pound Ridge was growing in popularity from its hat and shoe making industry. However, due to its heavy Native American heritage, the area is most famous for basket weaving giving Pound Ridge the name “Basket Town.”

Present day, this bucolic area is still home to farms, back country estates, a Jean-Georges restaurant “The Inn at Pound Ridge”, and a few shops and of course a few local celebrities like Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively. Being a little further nestled into the countryside, there aren’t any major hubs for transportation. But just a short drive into Connecticut gives you access to the train station in New Canaan for a relaxing 1.5 hour train ride to NYC. Other close stations include Katonah, Bedford Hills, Mount Kisco and Stamford if you are looking for Amtrak access. I684 and the Merritt Parkway are only 18 minutes away, giving you quick access to New York or New England routes.
